B Pressure Welder

The B Pressure Welder is responsible for performing high-quality pressure welding and fabrication work in support of 5Blue’s custom processing equipment manufacturing and field operations. This role requires a certified, skilled tradesperson who is committed to quality workmanship, adherence to welding procedures, and a strong safety culture.

This position is available on both day shift and night shift. Shift assignment and applicable shift premiums will be discussed and confirmed during the offer process.

Key Accountabilities

Welding & Fabrication:

  • Perform pressure welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable codes (ASME, CSA).
  • Fabricate, fit-up, and weld pressure vessels, piping systems, skid packages, and custom processing equipment components.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, isometrics, and fabrication sketches to produce accurate welds and assemblies.
  • Operate welding equipment including SMAW, GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and GMAW (MIG) processes as required.
  • Perform tack welding, fit-up, and assembly tasks in preparation for final welding.
  • Conduct visual inspections of completed welds and ensure work meets quality and dimensional standards prior to submission for non-destructive examination (NDE).

Quality & Code Compliance:

  • Maintain current B Pressure Welder certification and ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable provincial and industry codes and standards.
  • Adhere strictly to approved WPS documentation for each weld procedure.
  • Participate in weld testing and qualification processes as required.
  • Support NDE inspection activities (radiographic, ultrasonic, dye penetrant) by ensuring weld accessibility and proper weld identification.
  • Complete weld identification, traceability records, and as-built documentation accurately.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Adhere to all Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and 5Blue’s HSE policies at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Conduct pre-task hazard assessments and participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) including welding helmet, gloves, respirator, and flame-resistant clothing.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor promptly.

Equipment & Housekeeping:

  • Inspect and maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in good working condition.
  • Report equipment deficiencies to the supervisor for repair or replacement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation in the fabrication shop or on site.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work effectively as part of a fabrication team, communicating proactively with supervisors, pipefitters, and quality personnel.
  • Support the training and mentoring of apprentice welders or less experienced team members as directed.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and production schedules in a dynamic fabrication environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • Valid Alberta B Pressure Welder Certificate (or Red Seal equivalent with interprovincial endorsement).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of certified pressure welding experience in an industrial, oil and gas, or fabrication environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SMAW and at least one additional process (GTAW, FCAW, or GMAW).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and welding symbols.
  • Strong understanding of ASME and CSA welding codes and pressure equipment standards.
  • Physically capable of performing the demands of fabrication work, including working in confined and overhead positions.

Preferred:

  • Experience welding carbon steel and stainless steel pressure piping and vessels.
  • Familiarity with custom processing equipment, separators, tanks, or skid fabrication.
  • H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, and WHMIS certifications.
  • Experience working in both shop and field environments.
  • Journeyperson Pipefitter or Boilermaker ticket is a strong asset.

Working Conditions:

This role involves work in a fabrication shop environment with regular exposure to heat, fumes, noise, and other welding-related conditions. Field assignments may be required, involving work at customer sites or processing facilities throughout Alberta. Both day shift and night shift schedules are available. Appropriate PPE is required at all times. Extended hours or overtime may be required during peak production periods.

Compensation:

Competitive wage commensurate with certification and experience. Shift premium applicable for night shift positions. Details to be discussed during the selection process.
