Program Description:
CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) is a non-profit organization which provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta.
Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals, who collectively speak over 90 languages.
Through our 70 active programs, and comprehensive wraparound support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and Southern Alberta.
CCIS has launched a Language Interpretation and Translation Program and is subsequently recruiting for the following positions:
- American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter/Translator (NIC is required)
- Turkish Interpreter/Translator (CILISAT is required*)
- Thai Interpreter/Translator
- Greek Interpreter/Translator
- Swahili (Central Africa) Interpreter/Translator (CILISAT is required*)
- Swahili (East Africa) Interpreter/Translator (CILISAT is required*)
- Somali Interpreter/Translator
- Nigerian Interpreter/Translator
- Bosnian Interpreter/Translator
- Bulgarian Interpreter/Translator (CILISAT is required*)
- Danish Interpreter/Translator
- Finnish Interpreter/Translator
- Flemish Interpreter/Translator
- Georgian Interpreter/Translator
- Serbian Interpreter/Translator
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in English and another language.
- Language interpretation credentials: certification, memberships, training, or work experience.
- Demonstrated experience providing language interpretation.
- Enhanced interpreting skills through continued education training.
- Proficiency in written and spoken communication.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, along with a positive attitude.
- As travel is required, the successful candidate must have a current valid driver’s license, a clear driving abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- All applicants must be legally eligible and entitled to work in Canada.
- Your own active liability insurance coverage.
- CILISAT / TIN # / ATIA members consider an asset – this is required* where noted above.
- An acceptable criminal record check with vulnerable sector search that is recent (from within the last three months). This will be obtained as part of the selection process, after an offer has been extended.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing professional language interpretation/translation in different settings including in the community in various medical, legal, business, education, and other settings.
- Building excellent relationships with CCIS business clients and immigrant families.
- Demonstrating integrity and adhering to the highest standards of confidentiality.
- Attending meetings at different locations throughout Calgary, in person and online.
- Acting as a “fan of the program” (and CCIS), helping to promote it, representing it well, and contributing to its success.
- Contributing to an inclusive work environment through appropriate, effective communication and positive relationships.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with complementary community-based services.
